Dear Pink Floyd Fans everywhere,I was at work and a kind stranger decided to give me something that he’d been holding onto for almost 25 years. He said “I figured that I’d been holding onto it for long enough… It’s about time I pass it on to someone that will appreciate it as much as I have… Take care of it.” This stranger, I never got his name, then left and I haven’t seen or heard from him since. This gift is a Pink Floyd concert ticket, from the Momentary Lapse of Reason Tour, in 1988. It was stubbed from a stadium in Germany. I’ve framed it, and hung it on my wall.I’ve never seen such a kind act of selflessness in all of my life. I simply complimented the man’s shirt- in return giving me one of his most prized possessions. This has ultimately restored my faith in the world and has proven to me that not everyone walking down the street beside of me or standing in a line behind me is a rude, selfish person.I’m so thankful for this gift, and this man whom I received it from.Love, A Forever Floyd Fan

Pink Floyd

I love that clear bass rhythm in the song “Young Lust”
I love “setting your controls for the heart of the Sun”

I love waiting for someone to start singing in “Interstellar Overdrive”, no matter how many times I’ve heard it.

I love knowing the exact moments when I need to turn the volume down in certain songs.
I love the ringing and the ticking of the clocks, and the guitar riff from “Time”
I love thinking of Syd every single time I hear “Wish You Were Here”

I love spontaneously playing air drums when the chorus to “Brain Damage” plays.
I love sighing along with Roger Water’s at the very beginning of “Mother”
I love listening to Pink Floyd and forgetting how terrible some music has become.
I love being one of “two lost souls, swimming in a fish bowl”

I love trying to guess if it’s the beginning or end of a song when I haven’t paid attention.
I love every bit of the 26:02 minutes/seconds of “Shine On You Crazy Diamond”

I love holding my hand to my chest to see if my heart is following the heart beat at the beginning of “Speak To Me/Breathe”
I love… being just another brick in the wall.
I love Pink Floyd.

In some quarters, among the chattering classes, there exists a cynical view that human beings as a collective are incapable of developing more ‘humane’ ie, kinder, more generous, more cooperative, more empathetic relationships with one another.

I disagree.

In my view it is too early in our story to leap to such a conclusion, we are after all a very young species. I believe we have at least a chance to aspire to something better than the dog eat dog ritual slaughter that is our current response to our institutionalized fear of each other. I feel it is my responsibility as an artist to express my, albeit guarded, optimism, and encourage others to do the same. To quote the great man, ” You may say that I’m a dreamer, but I’m not the only one.”

- Roger Waters, 2010
